and how long does it take for frontline to start working? and jesus i just figured this out today. im getting him frontline tomorrrow morning..its not like im just keeping my dog with fleas and ticks to be left untreated...how long does it take for frontline to work anyhow?

Flea.org Recommends:

do you want the ticks and fleas on you? Neither does your dog. You really need to get them off of him, because he is as miserable as you would be. . Your vet will have amazingly effective flea and tick treatments for him, or you can get Frontline at a good pet supply shop..NOT the junk at the grocer's. Just wash your bedding, as the dryer heat will kill any bugs or eggs.

1) Wash your bed linens today 2) Treat your dog (EACH MONTH) with a product such as Frontline Plus. 3) Take a hot shower

you need to was your clothes and bedding in the hotest wash you can. vaccum your bed matress. You also need to treat your dog for the fleas and ticks, and i would also get something to put down in the house especially if you have carpets and fleas can bredd in them

Wash your dog with flea and tick shampoo and follow the directions. Then wash your bedding. You may have to treat your house depending how infested the fleas are. You may want to invest in Frontline or Advantix from your vet. Either are really good flea and tick repellent

How do you accidentally let your dog sleep in your bed? Anyways...If it has ticks and fleas it needs to be treated by a vet. You need to purchase a topical preventative and place it on your dog monthly. Capstar is a wonderful way of killing off the live ones now, but you will need to wash your bed linens and treat your mattress with a spray. I also suggest making sure that you have nothing lying around on your floors and bombing your house within the next few days, just to be safe. *ADD* Shih-tzu lover: It's just that great minds think alike. LOL From what I have read Frontline will work within 24 hours, however my experience has been different, that's why I suggested the Capstar. It was the only thing that worked for us to get the initial load of fleas off. *Soulless* Take a look at the second sentence in my post. It said to be "treated by a vet". Someone shouldn't be told they have to give up their pet just because it has fleas and ticks. Geez. You have no clue surrounding the persons situation.

You need something such as Frontline to rid of ticks and fleas on your dog and a spray such as Indorex or Acclaim for your house. If you think your dog has fleas you'll need to treat everywhere your dog goes. Pay close attention to skirting boards and your bed. Editted as the beginning of my answer sounded lots like 'I love my GSD'! You know when you read other answers and you end up using the same expressions? x]

Everyone else has answered your question very well, but I can't believe one thing that was missed... Ticks! Ticks feed on your blood. If you know your dog has ticks, you need to get them removed ASAP. And since you can't even manage to keep fleas off your dog, I wouldn't suggest removing the ticks yourself. Have someone that knows what they're doing do it for you. Not treating your dog is a form of cruelty. Also, did you know that fleas and ticks can carry disease? And that your dog swallowing fleas can give him worms? And that humans can get worms, too? Its a serious issue. If you can't take proper care of your dog, then find someone else who can, for his sake and for yours.
